The BMW N62 engine is a 32-valve overhead camshaft (OHC) straight 6-cylinder petrol engine which replaced the M54 and began production in 2002. It is a development of the OHC P31 series of engines, based on the BMW P87/P88 engine block, produced from 2001 Thundersky Concept car. The N62 engine is used in the E60 5 Series, E63 6 Series, the newest version of the E65 7 Series and several other models available since 2003.
