Common Causes Of Car Engine Failure
Engines are very complex. This means that there are many systems working together to make the engine function properly. So, if one of those systems fails, it can cause severe damage. But what are some common causes of car engine failure?
Here are three common causes of engine failure:
1) Mechanical problems – Any mechanical problem with your vehicle’s drive train or components can contribute to premature wearing of the engine. Common mechanical problems associated with cars include things like brake shoe/pads any metal on metal grinding due to defective steering or suspension parts
2) Cooling system problems – The cooling system is important because it keeps your automobile operating at a safe temperature range. If the radiator is clogged with dirt, scale or rust particles, for example, the engine will over heat. This problem is especially prevalent in older vehicles that have cooling systems that have been neglected for a long time
3) Fuel delivery problems – If your car does not have enough gas to keep it running, this can cause trouble as well. Inadequate amounts of fuel being delivered to the engine could be due to a faulty fuel pump or clogged fuel injectors. You should regularly check your oil and fluid levels as well as those found in different parts of the system so if you notice those levels are low, consult a mechanic right away.
4) Ignition problems – The ignition system is essential because without it, you would need a hand crank to start your vehicle! The spark plugs ignite the air/fuel mixture in the engine’s cylinders, and a faulty spark plug or a faulty ignition coil can cause major damage.
5) Catalytic converter problems – The catalytic converter is that part of your car that controls emissions. If there is something wrong with it that causes it to run less efficiently than it should, this could make the exhaust system work harder than necessary. This problem will show up as a lack of power from the engine when you accelerate hard. It may seem like your accelerator cable needs fine tuning or replacing, but it could be due to issues with the cat converter instead!
6) Crankshaft problems – The crankshaft turns within a bearing in order to move both pistons up and down in the cylinder block. If the bearing starts to wear out or break down, this could cause damage to your crankshaft. This problem will likely show up as an engine noise when you are trying to start the car.
7) Radiator issues – Just like how problems with other parts of your cooling system can cause engine failure, so can problems with the radiator itself. When there is any sort of rust or scale in or on it that restricts water flow, or if debris works its way into the radiator and blocks coolant from getting where it needs to go, this could have a very negative impact on your vehicle’s performance.
8) Valve problems – The valves in your engine control the movement of air over fuel while combustion takes place. Problems with the valves can cause a lack of power as well as an engine noise. Valves can also allow too much air into your engine which will make it run less efficiently.
9) Ignition wiring problems – If one or more wires that provide high voltage from the ignition coil to a spark plug gets damaged, this could impact the car’s performance and cause a misfire. The problem should show up as a car running roughly when you accelerate, but there may be no other symptoms other than this issue causing poor gas mileage.
10) Valve timing issues – Timing is important in just about any mechanical machine, and engines are no different! In fact, quite a few vehicles use adjustable timing to improve fuel efficiency and overall performance levels. For example, the timing belt on a car is used to keep the camshaft and crankshaft properly synchronized. When there are any issues with this mechanism, engine failure may occur!
